Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you call yourself 'BlueFlaw', and what does it mean?
When I originally made a Github account, I picked the username BlueFlaw. A Flaw means a mark, fault, or other imperfection. All beings are flawed, but I strive to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday; I believe there is beauty in imperfection. And my favorite hue is blue.
Where did you learn to draw?
When I was four, I’d find a quiet corner and just start drawing. It felt like this creative drive inside me, maybe because growing up with so little, art became my escape. I’d imagine new worlds and dream up fantasies, creating something bigger than my reality.
What helped me the most was studying other artists’ works and paying attention to the anime characters I watched on TV. Growing up in the Philippines, I didn’t have access to many art classes, and I couldn’t afford to pay for them. So, I turned to the internet and discovered some amazing free tutorials created by generous artists. It made me realize that anyone can learn to draw for free; all you need is determination!
Do you make tutorials?
Yes! I enjoy tutorials since they have aided me as a young artist, and I want to contribute back to the community. I haven't had time to complete all of the tutorials I have planned, but I will do so one at a time. You may find all of my existing tutorials on the Blogs Page.
Can I do fanart, write fanfiction, compose fan music, cosplay your characters, or translate your narrative into another language and put it on my website?
That would be amazing! I’d love to see how others reinterpret my work. Feel free to email me a link when you do!
What kind of education did you have?
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Mindanao and have since been involved in exciting web development projects. I’m also a Microsoft Technology Associate, and the first thing I did after getting my paycheck was buy my very first Wacom tablet.
Can I use your art, post it on my website, or sell it?
My art is free for public viewing! As long as you credit me as the original artist and provide a link to my website, you’re welcome to share my work on your site, blog, or social media. You can even use it in YouTube music videos as long as I’m credited in the description.
However, you cannot sell or profit from my artwork in any way. This includes printing my art on posters, T-shirts, mugs, or any merchandise, as well as selling digital versions like wallpapers or album art. If you’re interested in licensing my work for commercial purposes, please reach out to discuss the appropriate steps to avoid copyright infringement.
What tools, programs, or materials do you use?
I work with a variety of mediums, but my primary focus is digital art. Most of my illustrations are created in Adobe Photoshop using a Wacom Intuos tablet. I also incorporate 3D programs like Blender to efficiently create backgrounds and settings, so I don’t have to redraw the same elements repeatedly. For video editing, I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
When I’m not working digitally, I enjoy sketching with brush pens. My preferred traditional painting medium is watercolor, but I also like to experiment with acrylics and oils.
How long does it take to finish a drawing?
The time it takes varies greatly depending on the complexity of the artwork and my motivation. Sometimes I can whip up a decent piece in just 30 minutes, but other times I spend days perfecting the sketch, composition, colors, and fine details until I’m satisfied with the final product.
What inspires you?
That’s a complicated question! In short, I draw inspiration from nature, my life experiences, other artists, and the beauty and complexity of life itself.
Do you take requests, art trades, or commissions? What about volunteer or donation art?
Yes, I do take requests and commissions! I love doing art trades with fellow artists and welcome commissions to help with my expenses. If you’re part of a non-profit organization and need illustrations for charity work, I’d be happy to help if I have the time. Just reach out to me about your cause!
