Neon Genesis Evangelion has been a huge inspiration for me as an artist. First airing in 1995, the series created by Hideaki Anno and produced by Gainax quickly became one of the most influential works in anime history. It’s a story set fifteen years after the Second Impact, following Shinji Ikari and the mysterious organization Nerv as they battle towering beings known as Angels. Beyond the giant mecha battles, Evangelion dives deep into psychology, symbolism, and human emotion — which is exactly what drew me to it.
This fanart collection is my own way of celebrating that world. The images you’ll see here include character sketches, planning boards, and finished illustrations, each one exploring a different side of Evangelion. From reimagining pilots like Shinji, Rei, and Asuka in my own style to experimenting with new settings and moods, every piece is both a tribute and a personal reinterpretation.
My Approach
When I began these artworks, I wanted to do more than just redraw iconic scenes. My goal was to capture the emotional weight that Evangelion carries — the loneliness of Rei, the fiery determination of Asuka, and the heavy responsibility Shinji shoulders. I leaned into stylization, influenced by my own preferences in character design, but kept the silhouettes and core details true enough for fans to immediately recognize them.
I also experimented with different techniques — from rough sketch boards that map out poses and expressions, to polished digital paintings with dramatic lighting inspired by the show’s unforgettable mood.
Why Evangelion?
Like many artists, I’ve always been fascinated by how Evangelion blends the mechanical and the human, the divine and the broken. Its characters aren’t just pilots of massive machines; they’re fragile, flawed, and relatable. That balance of strength and vulnerability was something I wanted to reflect in my own drawings.
The Collection

This collection is ongoing, so expect more additions in the future.
